Product Performance & Scientific Validity

  • Yes. Independent cell-culture testing shows equivalent cell attachment, viability, and growth across standard adherent and suspension cell lines.

  • Yes and no. Though Planet-Safe® cell-cultureware does not have additional surface treatments, the manufacturing process exponentially increases natural surface hydrophilicity which supports consistent cell adhesion comparable to TC-treated surfaces.

  • Yes. Products have been evaluated using common lines (e.g., epithelial and cancer cell models) with standard assays for viability, proliferation, and morphology.

  • No. The resin formulation, surface characteristics, and dimensional tolerances are engineered to match existing workflows, minimizing protocol drift and eliminating the need for re-optimization.

Compatibility & Workflow Integration

  • Yes. No changes to media, coatings, incubator settings, or handling procedures are required.

  • Yes. Footprints, optical clarity, and dimensional specs align with SBS/ANSI standards where applicable.

  • Yes. Optical performance supports routine brightfield and fluorescence microscopy.

Sustainability & Materials

  • Planet-Safe® products are manufactured from plant-based PLA derived from sustainably sourced sugarcane, rather than fossil-derived materials.

  • PLA has a significantly lower cradle-to-gate carbon footprint due to biogenic carbon uptake and renewable feedstocks. Additionally, the process of raw material production ensures equitability which is overseen by Bonsucro - The global platform for sustainable sugarcane.

  • While Planet-Safe® is not backyard compostable, it has been evaluated per ISO 20200 and found to satisfy ASTM-D6400 testing requirements to be considered industrially compostable. At this time, spent labware such as Planet-Safe® is tightly regulated and not accepted at major industrial compost facilities.

Quality, Sterility & Compliance

  • Yes. Products are sterilized using validated processes and released only after passing sterility assurance requirements.

  • Yes. Products are manufactured from the same resin family to ensure material consistency and chemical compatibility.

Risk Management & Adoption

  • Absolutely! Samples are available so labs can validate performance on their own to ensure protocol and workflow compatibility.

  • Planet-Safe® delivers equivalent scientific outcomes with materially lower environmental impact without operational tradeoffs, providing an immediate reduction in Scope 3 emissions.

Institutional & ESG Alignment

  • Switching reduces Scope 3 emissions tied to lab consumables. These emissions are one of the largest hidden carbon sources in research environments.

  • Yes. Planet-Safe® complements initiatives focused on responsible procurement and reduced lifecycle impact. All Planet-Safe® products maintain ACT EcoLabels.

End-of-Life & Disposal

  • Dispose of according to your institution’s existing biohazard and waste protocols. Incineration is a common and appropriate pathway.

  • No. Biogenic carbon (contained in the product from the plant phase) emissions are released during the incineration process, creating a carbon neutral exchange rather than the net increase of carbon when traditional labware is incinerated.

  • Not through conventional lab recycling streams. Research-grade contamination and regulatory constraints apply, just like traditional used labware.
